Weather update: Effects of Hurricane Milton already being felt
Posted: October 9, 2024
We are hoping you are in a safe place as Hurricane Milton approaches landfall later today. Heavy rains and strong winds are already in the area around our Ruskin Campus.
The hurricane is expected to also bring a record storm surge and widespread flooding.
We are being told to expect significant damage across Hillsborough County. What this means for our campus is something we will learn together in the days ahead. We are continuing to track the storm and made as many preparations as possible. What happens next for all of us will depend on the level of damage and the amount of disruption to the greater Ruskin community.
Though the academic calendar says we should be back Monday for in-person instruction, we will not decide that until Friday or sometime over the weekend – until we’ve had a chance to assess the campus and understand how much damage the community sustained.
To our Ruskin students, staff and faculty: Do not return to campus until you have been instructed to do so by the university.
Please take precautions. Your safety is our top concern.
Once the storm has passed, please let your faculty member or program chair know how you are doing and if you might need assistance.
Remember: The Ruskin Campus is closed through Sunday for the already-planned fall break.
We will provide updates through the weekend, as necessary. Again, please do not come to campus until you receive a message from us that it is safe to do so.
