Storm update: Gannon’s Ruskin Campus closed through Wednesday
Posted: October 11, 2024
We hope you are safe and doing well. We have spent the past 36 hours trying to get a fix on conditions in and around Ruskin.
We have heard from many of you, mostly via text because cell service is spotty. Almost no one has electricity.
So far, everyone who has reported in has said they are safe.
We hope you are safe, too. Please know the prayers of the entire Gannon community are with you.
Hillsborough County has lifted its evacuation orders, but it is requesting everyone “stay in place” due to the number of down trees and power lines and because there is so much debris.
It is clear it will take time to restore power and clear the roadways.
As a result, we have decided that Gannon’s Ruskin Campus will remain closed through Wednesday night. This means there are no classes – not in person and not remote – and the campus buildings, which were not damaged by Hurricane Milton, will not be accessible. We might extend this timeline as we learn more about the community and how you are doing.
We will continue to assess the campus, and we will continue to reach out to all of you. Please look for messages this weekend and into next week.
